REAL MADRID president Florentino Perez is hoping to pull off an ambitious swap deal to finally tempt Chelsea into selling Thibaut Courtois.

Los Blancos are still desperate to sign a new shot-stopper with Keylor Navas failing to convince.

And with Madrid’s attempts to sign Athletic Bilbao’s Kepa Arrizabalaga failing this transfer window, the European champions are set to go all out for a quality addition between the sticks at the end of the season.

With David de Gea happy at Manchester United, Perez has turned his attentions to Courtois.

Chelsea are reluctant to part with the Belgian and hope to tie him down to a new long-term deal.

Despite a contract extension being on the table, Courtois is yet to put pen to paper with Madrid’s interest appealing for him.

A move for the 25-year-old will not come cheap though, and Spanish publication Don Balon claim Perez hopes the offer of defender Raphael Varane moving in the opposite direction will get Chelsea to do business.

Varane’s performances have waned of late and Perez feels Nacho’s rise through the ranks will see him become a key figure for Zinedine Zidane’s side ting forward.

Don Balon say Madrid are willing to cash in on Varane, who is under contract until 2022, to help convince Chelsea into selling Courtois.

However, Madrid’s task may be made harder if Courtois does pen a new deal beyond the end of the season.

Courtois recently reiterated his desire to stay in West London last month.

He said: “It has just turned the new year, so we will wait a few weeks and then sit around the table. I’m happy at Chelsea and a deal is close.

“Has it been a distraction? Not for me. I’m just calm and relaxed because I’m tied to Chelsea. Despite the rumours and everything, I am focused on Chelsea and I’m happy here.”
