Jose Mourinho is expected to spend big in the summer in a bid to catch up with rivals Manchester City.

The Etihad outfit have taken the Premier League by storm this season, leading their local rivals by 16 points on the top of the table.

Pep Guardiola spent over £250m this season, that includes £50m-plus signings Benjamin Mendy, Kyle Walker and Aymeric Laporte.

Real Madrid, on the other hand, are in the process of rebuilding their season after a stuttering start.

There were worries that Los Blancos would finish out of the top four of La Liga as well as nearly crashing out of the Champions League.

But the Bernabeu club, led by a rejuvenated Ronaldo, have wrestled back to third in the league and the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

The Portuguese superstar has been pivotal in their upturn in form, with 31 goals in 33 appearances this season.

But there have been rumours that the 33-year-old wants a return to Old Trafford at some point in his career.

The report goes on to state that a bid of £178m will be enough to secure the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.

Martial has fallen down the pecking order under Mourinho’s regime.

Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford, Juan Mata and Alexis Sanchez are all preferred options to the Frenchman.
