Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho could be handed a major double boost with Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic pushing to make their comebacks against Newcastle this weekend,
Pogba has endured a frustrating campaign as he’s been on the sidelines since straining his hamstring during the Champions League victory over FC Basel on September 12th.
The French international spent time in America during his rehabilitation but returned to full training at United’s Carrington training base late last month to continue the final stages of his recovery.
Ibrahimovic on the other hand is yet to feature this season as he’s been working his way back to fitness from a serious knee ligament injury that he sustained against Anderlecht back in April.
The Swedish international was initially ruled out for around nine months but the 35-year-old has stunned doctors with the speed of his recovery and he too is now back in training.
It has previously been suggested that Mourinho would wait until December before considering Ibrahimovic available for selection as the United boss was mindful not to rush him back too soon.
However, the Mirror are citing a report from the Sun that claims Ibrahimovic and Pogba are now pushing to be involved against Newcastle at Old Trafford this weekend.
The newspaper suggests both players could be named on the bench against the Magpies which would be a big boost for Mourinho to have two of his key men back in contention.
We’ll have to wait and see whether the Portuguese coach decides to risk the duo or hold them back for another week but their return to fitness comes at the perfect time as we gear up for the busy festive period.
Pogba’s presence in the middle of the park for United has been sorely missed while Ibrahimovic’s return will ease the pressure on Romelu Lukaku – who’s barely been given a moments rest since the start of the season.
