CRISTIANO RONALDO has sent a message to voters of the European Sportsperson of the Year award.

The Portuguese star picked up the gong for the second successive year at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai last night.

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane also picked up Best European Coach after guiding his side to five trophies in 2017.

Cristiano Ronaldo clinched his fifth Ballon d’Or this year – taking him level with Barcelona’s Lionel Messi – and was named the No1 footballer in the world at FIFA’s ‘The Best’ awards.

And speaking after picking up his latest honour, Ronaldo called on his supporters to keep voting so he can make it a hat-trick of triumphs in 2018.

“It is a special moment and I am very happy to receive this award,” Ronaldo said.

“I would like to thank the coach, my teammates and Real Madrid.

“Thanks to the people that voted for me and do the same next next year.”

And when asked where he would keep the trophy, he replied: “Don’t worry I have a lot of space.”

Ronaldo beat F1 driver Lewis Hamilton by 16 points to claim the award.

Tennis stars Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal finished third and fourth, respectively.
