INTER MILAN are keeping tabs on Manchester United star Juan Mata.

The Spaniard is out of contract at the end of the season and is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal.

United have the option to extend the 29-year-old’s deal by a further year but Mata wants to ensure he is still in boss Jose Mourinho’s plans before committing.

And according to The Daily Mirror, Serie A giants Inter are monitoring the situation and are ready to pounce if the playmaker becomes available.

Mata arrived at Old Trafford four years ago when Mourinho sold him for £37.1m while manager of Chelsea.

Rumours sparked that the two didn’t get on and it was thought Mourinho would look to get rid of Mata when he took charge of United last summer.

But Mata has established himself as a key part of his former manager’s plans at Manchester Unitedand has played 22 times so far this season.

However Mourinho has his heart set on Arsenal contract rebel Mesut Ozil and the Portuguese could be forced to offload Mata and fellow attacker Henrikh Mkhitaryan in order to make a deal happen.

United are currently second in the Premier League, 15 points behind table-topping rivals Manchester City.
