NEYMAR needed to move to leave Barcelona and join Paris Saint-Germain as it gives him the platform to show what he is capable of.
That is the view of Brazil legend Pele, who also reckons his transfer could be dangerous due to the level of responsibility he has been given.
Neymar, 25, shocked the football world when he left Barcelona for PSG in a world-record £200million deal.
But Pele admits it was a wise move on his compatriot’s part as he can now harness his full potential and no longer have to play in the shadow of Lionel Messi.
Pele said: ”At the moment the best player in Brazil is Neymar and I think the move for him was very good because there was huge competition with Messi at Barcelona.
“I think it’s a good opportunity for him and he needed to move because now he can really play and show what he’s capable of.
“But it’s also very dangerous when you get given that responsibility.”
Neymar’s move to Ligue 1 has raised question marks over his chances of winning the Ballon d’Or due to the competitiveness of the league compared to La Liga.
But Pele reckons his transfer will not hinder his chances of getting his hands on the coveted trophy.
When asked if he can win the Ballon d’Or, Pele told Spanish outlet Marca: ”Of course he can. Neymar has a football at his feet which is all he needs.”
Neymar has kicked off life at PSG in fine style, scoring three goals in his opening three league games.
The former Santos star is contracted to the club until the summer of 2022.
