PHILIPPE COUTINHO has been sent a message by his former Liverpool team-mate Lucas Leiva after joining Barcelona.

coutinho completed a £142million switch to Barcelona on Saturday and will be unveiled formally in front of the media later today.

The Brazilian watched his new team brush aside Levante 3-0 yesterday in their first La Liga game after the Christmas break.

After ending his five-year stay at Anfield, Coutinho has left behind many friends.

One player who Coutinho forged a strong relationship with was Lucas, and the pair know each other well from their time together in the Brazil set-up.

Coutinho’s move means he will be ineligible to play in the Champions League due to having featured in the competition for Liverpool already.

But Lucas was quick to point out that this is a blessing in disguise especially with a World Cup five months away.

“Missing the Champions League means you will be fresh for the World Cup, my friend,” Lucas Coutinho

“It’s not ideal, but you have to look at things positively.

“At 25, there are many more opportunities to come.”

Coutinho could make his debut for Barcelona against Celta Vigo in the second leg of their Copa del Rey tie on Thursday, despite recently suffering with a thigh injury.
