he Liverpool FC legend believes the Reds should consider a swap deal involving Philippe Coutinho and Barcelona forward Luis Suarez

Jamie Redknapp has urged Liverpool FC to consider a swap deal involving Philippe Coutinho and Luis Suarez in the summer.

The Brazil international is being linked with a move to La Liga giants again ahead of the January transfer window.

Coutinho was heavily linked with a move to the Spanish club in the summer but a deal failed to materialise given Liverpool FC’s reluctance to sell.

The 25-year-old midfielder handed in a transfer request in an attempt to force through a move to the Catalan side.

Coutinho has scored 10 goals and has made seven assists in 13 starts in all competitions this season to find his form after a disruptive summer.

The South American could link up with his former Liverpool FC team-mate Suarez at Barcelona after the pair forged a friendship at Anfield.

Suarez has netted 130 goals in 168 games in all competition for Barcelona and the Uruguay international has scored nine times in 21 outings this term despite concerns about his mobility.

Former Liverpool FC captain Redknapp suggested that Jurgen Klopp looks to bring back the 2014 PFA player of the year back to Anfield if the Reds decide to sell Coutinho to Barcelona.

“Philippe Coutinho was sensational for Liverpool at Bournemouth. The Reds should enjoy him while they can before Barcelona come calling again in the summer,”

“Even if Liverpool receive in excess of the £138million Barcelona bid last summer, there are few like-for-like players they can buy — while bringing in a number of players is not always the best option. Instead, Liverpool should ask Barcelona to swap Coutinho for Luis Suarez.

“The striker has not been as prolific as in recent seasons and the Liverpool fans would love a returning hero. It would be a great move for both the club and the Premier League.”|

Suarez netted 31 times in 33 games in Liverpool’s title challenge in the 2013-14 Premier League season.
