The Liverpool FC legend doesn’t want to see Antonio Conte leave Chelsea at the end of the season

Jamie Carragher has admitted that Antonio Conte would be a big loss to the Premier League if the Italian leaves Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.

The Blues squandered a lead to draw 2-2 with top-six rivals Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night after Hector Bellerin’s added-time equaliser cancelled out Marcos Alonso.

Chelsea are in third place in the Premier League table and a point adrift of Manchester United in the runners-up spot.

The Premier League title holders are a long way off current leaders Manchester City, with competition for a top-four spot hotting up.

Conte was frustrated in the summer when Chelsea missed out on some of his top targets after Romelu Lukaku moved to their title rivals Manchester United and Juventus refused to sell Brazil international Alex Sandro.

Chelsea saw their departure of six squad players in the summer to leave the Italian coach somewhat lightweight in terms of depth.

However, former Liverpool FC defender Carragher is hopeful that Conte will remain at Stamford Bridge to avoid the Premier League losing a world-class coach.

“I think he’s brilliant for the Premier League, Conte,” Carragher told Sky Sports.

“He’s different, in that maybe he’s not as much on the front foot as certain managers like Arsene Wenger, Pep Guardiola or Jurgen Klopp.

“I think City are going to win the league and Chelsea will come second or third. Normally [if that happens] a Chelsea manager loses his job. I think it would be a shame if that happens. He’s a top manager and he’s great for the Premier League.

“He’s doing a brilliant job and I’d be sad to see him go at the end of the season.”

Chelsea won the Premier League title with two games to spare last season after finishing seven points clear of second-placed Tottenham Hotspur.
