ROMELU LUKAKU has told Manchester United supporters to ‘move on’ from their controversial chant about him.
The song, which is sang to the tune of the Stone Roses’ Made of Stone, mentions the size of the Belgian striker’s penis.
A video, which surfaced from the Old Trafford stands, went viral and lead to the song being widely discussed in the media.
And after many individuals condemned the lyrics, Lukaku took to United’s official Twitter account to ask fans to ‘move on’.
“Great backing since I joined #MUFC,” Lukaku tweeted.
“Fans have meant well with their songs but let’s move on together.”
The post ends: “#RespectEachOther”.
Anti-discrimination group Kick It Out have described the lyrics as “offensive and discriminatory”.
“Racist stereotypes are never acceptable, irrespective of any intention to show support for a player,” said the group earlier this week.
The chant was heard midway through United’s 4-1 win over Burton Albion in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, despite the club promising to take action against individuals caught participating in the stands.
Lukaku has hit the ground running since moving to Manchester, scoring five goals in as many Premier League games.
The striker also netted in the 3-0 win over Basel in the Champions League.
