Man Utd could make changes to their defence in the fixture vs Tottenham and Jose Mourinho has given an injury update.
Phil Jones is set to return to the Manchester United team against Tottenham on Saturday.
Jones came off in the 23rd minute of United’s defeat at Huddersfield with an apparent hip injury, but travelled to Swansea for Tuesday night’s Carabao Cup victory and was an unused substitute.
Mourinho said on Friday he was hopeful Eric Bailly would return from an injury he picked up on international duty with the Ivory Coast. The 23-year-old has missed United’s last four matches against Liverpool, Benfica, Huddersfield and Swansea and said on his social media accounts he was ‘feeling good’.
Yet Mourinho did not mention Bailly when asked which players could return from injury for the Tottenham test this weekend.
“I think Jones will be,” Mourinho told Sky Sports. “Because today he was on the bench and he told me that if I need him he will be ready, so I believe he will be even better for Saturday.
“Apart from that I have no news and when I have no news I have no hopes.”
United have reached the last eight of the League Cup in successive seasons for the first time since 2012 and Mourinho could win the trophy for the fifth time in his managerial career, having first lifted it during the 2004-05 season.
The game was Mourinho’s 400th in English football and he insisted he is still as enthusiastic now as he was back at the beginning.
“Of course I am (still as excited as my first game),” he replied when asked about the milestone. “But 2004 was a long time ago, I think I am obviously the same but more mature with a different way to react to things but I am the same and I want to win.”
