BARCELONA star Lionel Messi reportedly warned Ernesto Valverde team-mate Gerard Deulofeu would be problematic and helped force the winger out of the Nou Camp last month.

Deulofeu returned to Barca from Everton last summer having impressed during a loan stint at AC Milan.

But he made just seven starts in all competitions for the La Liga giants this term after failing to impress Valverde.

Deulofeu was packed off on loan to Watford earlier this week and will be desperate to make his mark under new Hornets boss Javi Gracia.

The latest reports from Spain suggest Messi played a part in Deulofeu being shunted through the exit door.

According to Diario Gol, Messi said “he will only give us problems” with regard to Deulofeu’s return to Barcelona.

It seems the Argentina’s issues with his club-mate were centred on on-pitch concerns.

Diario Gol reckon Deulofeu’s style of play and selfishness did not sit well with Messi.

And, joined by Luis Suarez, he was keen for the 23-year-old to be moved on in January.

Fellow misfit Aleix Vidal was also tipped to leave Barcelona during the winter transfer window.

The fact he links up well with Messi meant Valverde provided him with a stay of execution though.

Diario Gol suggest Ousmane Dembele could struggle to win over Messi.

They cite his need for space to run into and lack of technical ability as not being in keeping with Barcelona’s preferred tactics.
